THE FLIP FLOP HOUSE - ARCHITECT TOUR

The Flip Flop House's pivoting walls and ocean view
Pivoting walls offer ocean front views. (above(
People who live in glass houses...are very lucky if they live in houses like this!

Okay...this is perhaps one of the coolest hones I have seen in awhile.  Architect Dan Brunn was given free reign and $8 million dollars from a Los Angeles based couple to create this Venice Beach home.  The couple's only requirements were that there should be no brown in the house and they needed a place to hang their art and photography they have collected over the years.

Architect Brunn's solution was to create a house with louvered walls - pivoting walls!  These turning panels create wall space so that the couple's art could be displayed while also allowing for fantastic ocean front views!  The Flip Flop House name is inspired by the turning walls.

The house is tres modern (my way of saying ultra modern).  Sleek Terrazzo floors, shiny Valcucine white glass cabinets, stainless steel wrapped structural columns and tons and tons of floor to ceiling glass imported from Switzerland.  5700 square feet.  A modern wonder beach house!

What do you think of this house? Would you want to live in a house with flip flopping walls?  I would!

Beautifully done by the architect!

Happy Monday!

AN OLD HORSE BARN GETS A MODERN DESIGN KICK

modern living room barn house barnhouse paddock horse stable

The property is called Stable Acre. It is 2700 square foot home on a remote farm in Norfolk, England. The home, a former 19th century horse stable (barn), was restored into a contemporary weekend house for London art gallery owner Stuart Shave.  The project was designed by by architect David Kohn and completed about 3 years ago.

I like it.  Modern rustic.  High pitched lofty ceilings, white painted exposed brick doorways, grey washed wood paneled walls, cement floors and all.  The mid century modern furniture works in the living room. A clean wood furniture aesthetic to go with the modern rustic architectural touches.

The home has been written about a few times over the last 2 or 3 years. I discovered it though only after seeing this first image on photographer Damian Russell's website. I super sleuthed my way into reading about how this modern barn came to be!

Love the white washed wood paneled walls! (above)

Must find this pom pom bed cover...so darling...a good dose of whimsy in the very minimalist modern master bedroom. (above)
Like!  Like a lot.  I would warm up the space with some rugs...might even use a COCOCOZY rug or two in the home.  I'd like to stay as guest in this weekend house...wonder how I could get an invite?!?!

What do you think of this old barn made new? What would you add to the decor to make it your own?  Wish I could see the before photos!

Happy Thursday!

HAMPTONS HOMES BY BATES MASI ARCHITECTS

I happened upon the website of Bates Masi Architects and was so intrigued.  Bates Masl is an award winning Hamptons based architecture firm run by architects Paul Masi and Harry Bates.  When I think of the Hamptons, I often think of a traditional shingled Gambrel style beach homes.  Well Bates Masl designs homes that are the complete opposite of traditional upscale beach home.  Their homes are modern, massive and  layered with innovative architectural detail.

Here are a few images of their work! Please note, these images were pulled from several different projects/homes Bates Masl created.

So cool...a modern wood paneled room! (above)

Just to note again, these photos come from different homes that Bates Masi designed. This is just a smattering of their work.

I'm normally not an ultra modern living space type of girl but would certainly LOVE one of these as my summer home. Anyone offering to buy me one? Anyone? :-)

Happy Thursday!

P.S. Am doing an industry panel discussion today for my real job. Had a dinner out with friend TH last night and am a little tired. Hope I can wake up enough to be spunky and answer questions!

P.P.S. Back to Vegan before 6p today...am going to give it another go and stay far away from turkey chili! (See yesterday's P.S. for background)

P.P.P.S. Mother's Day is around the corner...look forward to hanging out with sis DS and my mom!

A HOME WHERE THE SKY IS THE LIMIT!

ultra modern living room with retractable wall, fireplace, long sofa and armchair with a view of the ocean
An ultra modern family home with a 3.5 ton retractable wall - creating the ultimate indoor outdoor experience! (above)
I'm not a ultra modern girl but something about this super duper modern house with retractable walls and ceilings appeals to me.  Maybe it is the whole concept of really bringing the outdoors inside.

This Long Island, NY 6,000 square foot home was designed by New York architect West Chin for a family.  He tore down the existing small structure, raised this house onto pylons and then created a huge garage door style retractable wall that rolls up and offers those in the living room a spectacular view of the ocean.

I like.  Some thing fresh about this whole idea of of the simplicity of it all ... plus blue sky and ocean views aren't too shabby either - 21st century indoor outdoor living!

The exterior - the house is raised so that the view is of the ocean and not just sand dunes...on the bottom level there is a pool and patio. (above)

Pebble wall shower in the master bathroom
This pebble wall bath is actually inside the master bedroom but it has a retractable glass ceiling. (above)
What do you think?  Too modern?  Or just right?  Could you ever see yourself living in a high tech modern house like this?  What if someone gave it to you?  Would you say yay or nay?

I'm on the fence about living in it day to day...but I do think it is AMAZING and I certainly would love to visit for a few months every year! :-)

Happy Wednesday!

P.S.  Thank you to Cassandra over at Coco + Kelley blog for featuring a COCOCOZY Gate Throw in navy yesterday as one of her sick day must haves - a stylish cotton throw to wrap up in even when you are feeling a little under the weather! Hope you feel better Cass.

P.P.S. Best of friend AM and JE are still in town staying at my house...was at work yesterday until about 9:30p though so just saw them for a bit last night.  They are so cute.  It is fun coming home to my best of friend an her family. The kiddies are so darling.  Anyhooo...when I got home, AM told me all about how she and her family had just visited a friend of hers who lives here in Los Angeles. Said friend of AM apparently has a fabulous several thousand square foot house in the Pacific Palisades. While Anne giving me a home tour recap of this magnificent house she had just been to, I think I heard her husband say, "Yah and their master suite is as big as Coco's entire house"!  Hmmm....
