A POM POM PERFECT PARTY!

People mingling at the pom pom anniversary party

So...last night, I donned a cute peplum top, Rag & Bone skin tight skinny jeans, my standard Chanel purse and headed to Pom Pom Interiors, a gorgeous European chic home furniture store here in Los Angeles.

My second soiree of the week...another fabulous event.  This time it was Pom Pom's 20th anniversary party and a signing for books by celebrity designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard and another lovely book from Katrien Van der Schueren.

The party was being thrown by Pom Pom Interiors owner Hilde Leiaghat, her husband Reza and their son Sam.

I must say...it was a fantastic party.  Beautifully and elegantly done.  Filled with a fun exciting crowd.  Very beautiful but also very warm and inviting.  It is Hilde's Pom Pom style at play...elegant relaxed chic. I liked the vibe!

Hilde is also quietly a Hollywood go to person for design and decor.  Among many celebs, Hilde and Pom Pom have worked with stars like Jennifer Lopez - Hilde did rooms in J.Lo's homes in New York and Los Angeles!

When I got out of my car at valet, I was immediately thrown against a step and repeat wall and photographed with Hilde and guest of honor Martyn. Then after my mini red carpet like moment and the wonderful whirlwind of hellos and kisses, I wandered inside to one of the most lovely stores in the country.

Hilde has designed the flagship Pom Pom store on La Brea Avenue like a gorgeous home filled with relaxed romantic chic home furnishings. Every nook and cranny is filled with a new delight. A beautifully curated collection of vintage, antique and reproduction furniture in a huge space. For years, I've gone to Pom Pom and browsed and dreamed...Hilde's designed a store where you can dream.

A whole crew of folks I know showed up...there was CM and LH who work for COCOCOZY (well technically LH doesn't work for COCOCOZY anymore, she got a new job that she just started on Wednesday but she is still part of the COCOCOZY family), JW also showed up and I am  hoping to recruit her onto the COCOCOZY team part time. Good friends SN (she is so sweet and smart and gives me such good advice) and BN also stopped by too. Beata Heinrichs of Hedgehouse and her husband Josh were also there.  I also had a nice quick chat with Tiffany from Layla Grayce.  I was also able to squeeze in a hello to Jacqui and Wendy who work for Hilde at Pom Pom.

So many wonderful people to see and meet that it turns out I barely took any photos!!! Oy va voy!

Well...here are just a few photos I took from last night!

What a fantastic night!  Sorry I didn't take more photos.  I was caught up in all of the excitement of it all.

For those of you who haven't had the opportunity to swing by Pom Pom, you should.  It is a true design delight!

P.S. Was so happy to get an email earlier this week from Lynette Vertoch of Cameos & Crowns.  Lynette makes an adorable line of printed flour sack pillows.  Lynette started Illume Candles years ago...she started and ran the company for 5 years before she sold it.  Lynette was kind enough to mentor me when I was first starting COCOCOZY.  Lynette now lives in Seattle with her family and runs her new company.  Wishing you well Lynette and a happy birthday.

P.P.S.  Did I mention that a pipe exploded at my house a few months back and now the water damage is showing on floors and walls in my tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills?  Oh my.  Must take photos.  The contractor is coming this weekend to give me an estimate.  If it isn't one thing...it is another.  Right?  Beata and SN think I should blog about my floor/wall/pipe exploding problem...I may.

P.P.P.S.  Hope you have a wonderful Friday!

I love Pom Pom.

If you don't know Pom Pom...you should. :-)

Pom Pom was first opened years ago as a furniture store in Los Angeles. It is owned by Hilde Leiaghat, her husband Reza and her son Sam.  Their one furniture store grew into two home furnishing shops, then into three stores (they have one in Beverly Hills that I've written about) and for the last few years they've been making their own line of Belgian chic linen home textiles too!

Anyhoooo...last week I was invited to a Pom Pom party for the re-opening of their store on La Brea Avenue here in Los Angeles.  I had dinner plans with a friend NN who I hadn't seen in months...but we had to make a detour to Pom Pom before going to dinner.

The store is just delightful...it is filled with antique and reproduction furniture, soft linens and beautiful home accessories.  It is delight to wander through and explore the very large store that is almost set up like house...with so many rooms, nooks, crannies with so much to see...Pom Pom is teeming with decor and design inspiration.

In addition to getting to browse through a fabulous store...imagine my delight to see the COCOCOZY line of Natural Linen Pillow Covers in the store among all of the beautiful things and fitting in so well.  It is so much fun to see my products blended into such a beautiful environment.

Anyhoooo....so all of this chitter chatter and blah blah blah to say...today I bring you the gorgeous update of  Pom Pom's La Brea Store!

Such a well curated home furnishings store...a shop filled with decor dreams and tons of design inspiring ideas.  There is certainly a Pom Pom style and way of life!

Thank you Hilde, Reza, Sam and Jackie for inviting me to pop by!  It was so much fun!

Happy Tuesday!

P.S.  Sorry I didn't get a chance to post yesterday...have been running around like a chicken with no head!  My weekend was just a whirlwind...on Sunday alone...I had two back to back events and then more!  I went to a fabulous garden party that was to benefit LAXART...an art organization here in Los Angeles.  I went as the guest of my friend Kristi Bender who is a partner at Wendy Schwartz Design.  I felt so fortunate to spend a lovely afternoon hanging out with Kristi and interior designer Wendy Schwartz at a beautiful home in Hancock Park.  It was so much fun catching up with the girls and sipping champagne...it was too short of a visit. (It was short because I had to leave the garden party to attend a Hollywood awards show...check out COCOCOZY Twitter feed and Instagram to see which red carpet event I went to on Sunday evening...not any place I thought I would ever go!).  Here are some photos from the garden party...thank you Kristi for inviting me along!

P.P.P.S.  Have a happy Tuesday!

HOUSE PARTY: DESIGNER KRISTI BENDER'S SPLENDID BACKYARD BIRTHDAY BASH!

Kristi Bender in her Los Angeles home
Designer Kristi Bender invites guest into her Los Angeles home for a summer birthday bash. (above)

A few months ago I got a save the date for a June birthday party for friend and talented designer Kristi Bender.  The save the date came from Kristi's husband film producer Chris Bender.  I immediately marked my calendar and replied I would attend.  How much fun, I thought.  Who doesn't love a fun birthday party?

Well on the first weekend in June, I put on my dancing shoes, a gold sparkling belt, a little black dress and headed over...was so excited because although I have been friends with Kristi for a few years now, I had never been to her house.

When I arrived at the Bender's Tudor house here in Los Angeles, I knew right away that Kristi had used her magic to create an enchanting evening.  They say the devil is in the details...and in this case, Kristi welcomed guests into her beautiful home with all of the perfectly exquisite fresh details meticulously in place.

Kristi  Bender is a partner at Wendy Schwartz Design, a very hip design firm here in Los Angeles. Kristi lives and breathes design on a daily basis. What I saw first hand on this early June evening at Kristi's house, is that she has a truly innate knack for making spaces beautiful, inviting, whimsical and intriguing. Kristi, who is friendly, natural and warm herself, somehow imbues that same spirit into the environments she creates.  This design skill set along with business acumen means that Kristi (along with her business partner Wendy) is making her mark as part of  the new guard of this country's tastemakers.

Let's just put it this way, I totally lost it in the middle of the party.  Instead of chatting with people like a normal person, I kept saying to my friends HW and AG, that I didn't want the party to end and kept commenting on how much fun I was having.  I was definitely not living in the moment only because all I could think of was, "How can I get Kristi to throw a party like this every weekend?"

Anyhooooo, Kristi is so sweet, that after a good shameless beg on my party, she sent over some stunning pictures taken by her friend and photographer Corey Sanders.

Kristi was also kind enough to share some of her style and party planning secrets with COCOCOZY readers.

So without further ado, here are the details on style maven Kristi Bender's Backyard Birthday Bash.

***

table with glasses of water with fresh strawberries on the rim, orange lanterns and a sign that says "Summer Starts Here"

COCO: For you and your husband, what was your goal for the tone of the party going into it?

KRISTI BENDER (KRISTI): My birthday falls at the start of June and since I can remember, everybody on my birthday weekend is ready to start their summer! So we decided to keep it casual, chic and embrace the start of summer with a backyard dance party.

COCO: Love some of the decor details like the colorful streamers. I heard whispers at the party that you made these yourself. Do you mind sharing how?

KRISTI: When looking for party inspiration on Pinterest, I came across this amazing display which was used as one couple's wedding backdrop. It provided color, texture, movement and above all, a great cover up to my not so pretty garage doors! What you need...long wooden dowels from any hardware store, a hot glue gun, good scissors, a combination of inexpensive and fancy crepe paper, gold metallic curtains to affix to back then to sprinkle a bit throughout. And finally, a good amount of time. My fringe crepe curtain took roughly 8 hours...for 10 feet of crepe wonder!

Orange den with orange sofa, large mirror, small accent tables and photo wall that overlooks the backyard
Kristi's husband who she fondly just calls "Bender" created a photo wall in their den that overlooks the backyard...a great conversation piece for guests. (above and below)

COCO: You could have just made the nearly 100 guests go around the side of the house to get into the party...but you opened up your entire house to your guests...why?

KRISTI: We wanted our guests to feel welcome, part of our family from the minute they arrived. Even though there were quite a lot of people, we wanted it to feel intimate, comfortable and a place for people to smile and have fun.

table with four glasses of "Kristi's Bender"
In addition to a full bar complete with bartenders and all,  the bartenders created and offered guests a delicious signature drink of the night called the "Kristi's Bender" made with fresh juices and a bit of alcohol.  The drinks not only matched the orange and gold decor of the night but  Kristi hand made the gold pom poms on each drink - these little drink baubles were perhaps one of my favorite touches of the whole evening. (above and below)

KRISTI: I loved seeing all of my guests utilizing the entire house. By opening all of the French doors, stringing lights and putting loungey furniture in an otherwise ugly driveway and covering the yard with a dance floor, the inside and outside of our Tudor was completely utilized.

dancing in the backyard
Kristi and her guests danced the night away on a white dance floor in the middle of her backyard! (above and below)

COCO: I noticed a lot of people who are parents there at the party kicking up their heels and having a total blast without their kids!

KRISTI: A lot of my friends are parents and we get to know each other at school or playdates or bday parties. But having a drink and a dance and a conversation w/o interruption is how these friendships have evolved into something more special and meaningful. Having my daughters there for the first 30 minutes [was a major party highlight]...I remember being at my mom's 40th and wanted my girls to have a memory of mine. But it was an adult affair, so 30 minutes was all they got.

giant balloons with streamers attached

COCO: Loved the giant balloons over the dance floor? Where did you find them?

KRISTI: I heard about these balloons and had to have them for two reasons. First, balloons was a big part of my upbringing as my mom and her best friend had a balloon decorating business in the 80s. That was my high school weekend job. Moreover, these balloons took my fringe concept over the top! Jihan of Geronimo Balloons has a studio downtown or can come to set up.

COCO: Food - was this catered?

KRISTI: My childhood friend Carin organized the food. She did a beautiful job...pasta salad from my cousin Carmine's restaurant, desserts from a neighbor and friend, HJ Paik, and charcuterie from Carin's fiancé Mark McGrath's market in OC called A Market.

late night snacks from a slam truck
The late night nosh offering was a slam dunk! (above)

COCO: All of a sudden there was a hot dog stand at the party with a huge line...who were they?

KRISTI: Bender [Chris] was adamant that we have a late night food surprise so when we saw this nitrate free, grass-fed tongue and cheek named sausage and frank cart at a park party recently, we decided that would be a great twist to our "start of summer" 40th bash! Let's Be Frank was a hit!

One of Kristi's party tips is to put birthday cake and desserts on display...helps create a festive mood and invites guests to get going on the sweets. (above and below)

COCO: What was one of the best moments for you during the night?

KRISTI: Having all of my old and new friends and neighbors aside me when I blew out the cake candles...I remember thinking to myself "what more could I wish for?"

Kristi thank you and your husband so much for inviting me to the party!  I was so happy to be there celebrating your special day!  I can't thank you enough for sharing all of the details with me here on COCOCOZY.  By the way, when is the next party?  (oops...there I go...not living in the moment again...I know...should just be gracious and say thank you...instead I'm thinking when can I go to another fun party and have a great time...)

Readers, what do you think of this birthday backyard bash?  What do you see here that you like the most?  Any tips you might take away?  Any decor tips you have used at your own parties that you'd like to share?

Happy happy Monday!

LONNY LOVE!

Coco's faves for Lonny Magazine
Me and my faves in May 2012 Lonny Magazine! (above)

Today is a good day for COCOCOZY!  Was so excited to open today's latest Lonny Magazine and see the Blogger Style page with all of my favorite picks in fashion and home decor.

I love Lonny Magazine.  If you don't know it, Lonny is the online interior design/shelter magazine founded by Editor-in-Chief Michelle Adams, and super talented photographer Patrick Cline. It is absolute eye candy for home decor enthusiasts, fashion aficionados or anyone who loves anything to do with design and style!

Lonny has been very kind to COCOCOZY over the last year.  When I first launched the COCOCOZY textiles collection in 2011...the magazine was so sweet to do a little feature on my new collection in the July/Aug. 2011 issue.  And now, they were nice enough to ask me about my faves!  The team at Lonny has been so supportive and I am truly grateful.

I just met Michelle officially this last January at the COCOCOZY booth at the New York International Gift Fair (we had met briefly a few other times).  She was so nice.  There are some people who have been really fantastic to COCOCOZY over the last year...she is one of them.

It was so much fun putting together a list for them...things I like, things I own, things I've made and things I covet!

Also, this issue of the magazine features some GORGEOUS homes, interiors and furnishings.  I will have to read it several times to take in all of the goodness.

So check out the last two pages of the magazine to see my picks...also you'll see more of me than you've ever seen before because they asked for a photo and not a sketch.  (I think they thought the sketch I've been using looks like something out of the witness protection program).  So this weekend, my sister DS took this photo of me on my deck and now it is in the magazine!  Still not the full reveal...as I am still leading my double life (executive by day...blogger/textiles designer by night)!

Have you read Lonny?  What is your favorite in this month's Lonny magazine?  What other design magazines do you love?  Do tell!

Thank you to Michelle Adams and team for featuring COCOCOZY in Lonny!  I can't tell you how much it means to me.  They are so nice.

Happy Thursday!

P.S.  Last night I went with friend and super talented interior designer Alison Blumenfeld of Blumenfeld Interiors to an event at the stunning Rose Tarlow's Melrose House showroom for the La Cienega Design Quarter week events here in Los Angeles.  A lovely party indeed.  Lots of design folk and lots of my favorite champagne - Veuve Clicquot - all in a chic elegant setting.
