ONE OR THE OTHER - ECLECTIC LIVING ROOM DECOR

living room eclectic mid century modern home furnishings international tufted sofa built in book shelves window

Two living rooms I like...both with an eclectic sort of vibe.  What is eclectic you might ask?  Well I think I would say it is a melange of sorts...inclusive decorating.  In these two homes eclectic seems to be  a mix of mid century modern pieces, with some industrial accents and then add in a bit of international flair and there you have it...a unique style.

Pick ONE OR THE OTHER - which living room do you like best and why?

Which of these living rooms do you like best?  You have to pick one or the other.

I'm liking the first the best I think...love the built in bookshelves, the tufted sofa and the galvanized metal trunk coffee table.  Must say though that brass and lavender velvet tufted arm chair in the second room is quite appealing!

Please weigh in on the comments section and tell me which room you like best!

Happy Thursday!

P.S.  Funny aside story...talked to best of friend AM yesterday.  AM and her hubby JE  went on an adventure this past weekend.  They took their kids to Chuck E. Cheese's last Sunday in New York City.  It was their family's first visit to the pizza establishment.  While surrounded by families, kids and pizza, AM posted about the visit on Facebook.  AM wrote: "First time ever to ChuckECheese - yikes!". She received several Facebook comments on her post but the funniest two read: "I've never been. I'm too scared." and then another friend of hers wrote, "leave immediately". AM described the experience as surreal but apparently her kids loved it...her little cute daughter who is 3 had a meltdown when they were departing said restaurant!  Parenthood!

EXCLUSIVE DESIGN SNEAK PEEK INSIDE A MALIBU HILLS HOME!

Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe of Nickey Kehoe's living room in their Malibu home featured in House Beautiful

An exclusive from the pages of next month's House Beautiful! Woo hoo!  Love when I get a sneak peek on home that is about to be published.

A Malibu Hills ranch style home newly fashioned by Los Angeles interior design team Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe of Nickey Kehoe.

Eclectic in Malibu is how I would describe the aesthetic.

In lieu of a traditional chandelier, the living room features a huge red metal mobile by artist Stephen Oakes, poufs covered in Suzani fabric, decorative pillows made of vintage kimono sashes, a "Pollock-esque"wool and silk rug and mid century modern inspired furniture.

In the breakfast nook, a narrow modern rustic table with benches with a bright green embroidered Mexican cloth acting as a table runner.

And perhaps my favorite - the "love" spray painted above the bed in the master bedroom...initially a place holder for just the right piece of art...but now has become a signature decorative statement.

In the master bedroom, "love" is spray painted in blue over the bed and sets the tone for a varied mix of textures and styles. I love the hide rug too. (above)

The House Beautiful article is actually about the use of color in this home. I chose pictures of the more neutral rooms...but if you read the entire article which is on newsstands next week, you'll see an electric blue formal dining room, a bright green kitchen, a yellow and purple family room den and much more.

Follow along on COCOCOZY Pinterest and COCOCOZY Instagram to preview some of the more colorful rooms in this home!

Thank you Sonia and House Beautiful for the first look!

Happy Friday!

P.P.S.  Thank you to Sarah from Chevron & Stripes blog for featuring COCOCOZY Cane Throws as a stylish and functional necessity for winter storms!

THIS OR THAT: LIVING ROOM LIGHTING!

black drum style ceiling pendant light over a coffee table

Two living rooms with black ceiling pendant lights hanging directly over the coffee tables.

One is a large oversized drum pendant light...in the other living room, a cluster of smaller black pendants is used.

The question is...which do you prefer?

So what do you think? I definitely like the large drum pendant light the best. Makes a bold statement.

Happy Friday!

P.S. As I mentioned, we did a big photo shoot with fab photographer Hugh Hamilton right before Christmas for the new COCOCOZY 2013 catalog.  We shot at sis DS's house here in Los Angeles.  Here are some photos I took at the shoot - a sneak peek of a few of the shots that are being considered for the cover. These shots feature the COCOCOZY Classic Collection of linen pillows. We'll be introducing a whole new line in 2013 named COCOCOZY Light (I will show you those pillows soon...not yet...but soon). That is JW, who assists over at COCOCOZY, arranging the pillows in the second shot!  This was the first time we shot during the day and the first time we finished within 8 hours!
