Last week I mentioned my latest exciting new license partnership with Mirth Studio.  This week, I'll go into a bit of detail.

I am so proud to be a part of a fantastic new product release - painted wood tile floors with COCOCOZY patterns on them.

Long story short.  Via email and a blog post I met Sally Bennett, founder of Mirth Studio in Charleston, South Carolina.  Sally came up with the brilliant idea of creating engineered wood floor tiles that are digitally printed on to look like they are hand painted wood floors. Sally, an artist by trade, has dozens of wonderful colorful designs in the Mirth Studio collection. Ingenious.  Genius.  Smart.  Well the minute I heard of this concept I knew two things: 1) I had to do one of the first blog posts on these tiles (click here to see my post) and 2) I wanted to partner with Sally to license out my COCOCOZY designs for these wonderful floor tiles.

In less than a week after meeting via email, Sally and I worked out a deal.  Just this last week, Sally took her innovative product to High Point Market along with 5 of my designs!  So exciting!

Well the response was overwhelming.  Sally is the first to bring this sort of product to market so designers and potential partners went crazy over these floors.  Sally was inundated with at the trade show with lots of business prospects.  Was so happy for her and so happy to be a part of her wood floor tile launch.

Here are some details on these wood floor tiles from Mirth Studio's website:

• Available in 12” x 12” square tiles made of ½” thick engineered hardwood.
• Pre-finished with 10 coats of abrasion-resistant, crystal-clear UV-hardened 100% resin urethane.
• Ideal for residential or light commercial use.
• Should be installed using a multiple-stick urethane glue.
• Can be installed over most subflooring—concrete or wood.
• Manufacturer’s warranty: 10-year commercial and 25-year residential on tile surface, lifetime structural warranty (see details in warranty section).
• Manufactured and finished in the US. 100% MADE IN THE USA!
• Can be lightly sanded and refinished multiple times just like conventional engineered wood floor products.
• You can easily replace a single tile or small section, unlike traditional wood flooring, which must be ripped out and re-installed with sanding and staining when damaged.
• The tiles come 18 per box. Each box weighs 33 lbs.
• Can also be used decoratively on walls

P.S.  Woke up a little sore this morning.  Went on a 6.2 mile hike yesterday with TE.  Such an amazing walk uphill to stand almost right in front of the iconic Hollywood sign.  It was such a nice day for a long walk up a hill.  Not too sunny.  Not cold.  Just perfect.  With good company I might add.

P.P.S.  This weekend was my "I Love Lucy" weekend.  I got locked out of the COCOCOZY Headquarter offices on Saturday...I had brought my dog, Mr. Boo, over to get some paperwork done, I stepped out of the office for a minute and locked myself out!  About an hour later and $149 poorer, a nice locksmith who looked like a spy of some sort, came and helped me open the door!  Lucy  moment number 2 occurred when I was sashaying up some stairs with TE and was taking pictures of the inside of a house, when all of a sudden I lost my footing and ended up falling face down.  No injuries at all.   Just a loss of pride and dignity. Lucy moment #3.  Mr. Boo, my dog, eats $100 in $20 bills belonging to my boyfriend TE.  TE left money on the dining room table...Mr. Boo climbed on said table, stole money and ate it. Oy. Tried to make jokes about this mishap...fell on deaf ears! Ooops. That's it.

COCOCOZY FOR CAPEL RUGS - COLLECTION PREVIEW!

Was thrilled to wake up today to a trade press article announcing my collaboration with Capel Rugs on the first COCOCOZY Rug Collection of luxury wool Indo Tibetan hand knotted rugs!

Here is the  article from Home Accents Today - a to-the-trade and home furnishings industry publication.

In January, in New York, I debut just 5 rugs at the New York trade show.  Well yesterday, I got photos of all 24 rugs in the collection from the nice DO at Capel.  Here are just a few of the COCOCOZY rugs that you have not yet seen. Am loving all of them...so each day for the next week or so, I'll sneak peek a few images of the rugs.

I'll be going to High Point, NC a week from Monday to show the full collection at the Capel showroom there!  Capel is throwing a cocktail party for me and the rugs.  I think people will be more interested in seeing the rugs than me...but am so so so excited!

INTRODUCING COCOCOZY for CAPEL RUGS - SAMPLE PREVIEW!

So...over the last 6 months, I've been alluding to and mentioning partnerships that I've been working on for COCOCOZY.

Today I am thrilled to announce a collaboration and a new COCOCOZY collection that we are bringing to market.

COCOCOZY for Capel Rugs! COCOCOZY rugs are going to market in 2013!  I'm still pinching myself.

These are pictures of the samples of COCOCOZY hand knotted wool Tibetan rugs that will be in stores this year!  We just got these 5'x8' samples in a few weeks ago and now I will be showing them at the New York International Gift Fair in less than two weeks! The rugs will come in other sizes and colors too.

Established in North Carolina in 1917, Capel Rugs is the oldest privately owned rug manufacturer and importer in the United States. Capel is known for their traditional classic braided rugs that are made at their mill in North Carolina.

Most recenlty, Capel has  some fantastic rug collaborations including their latest with television personality and designer Genevieve Gorder. They also do a fabulous line with textile designer Kevin O'Brien.

Here's the short version of the story on how this all started...

Over a year ago, a very smart and sharp Tami Watras, the Vice President and Creative Director of Capel Rugs approached me and COCOCOZY to talk about rugs. Tami sent me a nice email saying she would like to meet.

A few weeks later in July 2011, Tami came by the Atlanta market with Capel Rugs president John Magee and Vice President John Harrison to view my pillow collection. I remember meeting them and thinking, "Wow they look so official, they seem really nice and this is serious stuff!". I was right on all fronts.

It was after that meeting, the rug games began.

As my fab agent SM (I think I mentioned I have Hollywood type agent...or did I?) was negotiaing  the deal, my dear and sweet angel best of friend AM met me for a day trip to North Carolina where we rented a big SUV and drove to the Capel headquarters in Troy.  We were going to Capel to see if this was a deal I wanted to do for COCOCOZY.

While in Troy, we also got to meet the fantastic Cameron Capel, Vice President at Capel and whose grandfather founded the company.  During that sit down with the Capel team, there was instant chemistry...we had a shared vision as to what the rug collection could look like and more importantly we all had such a great time getting to know each other.   On the drive back to the airport, AM who had her nose stuck in the Capel catalog (shopping of course), simply said "You should do this deal.  They are great.  Do it."  That is where it all began.

So a year and half later, after several meetings, swatches, samples and designs going back and forth, here are a few of the designs and colorways in the first COCOCOZY rug collection!

P.P.S. Yesterday was my birthday. TE was very nice to whisk me away to San Francisco for a birthday fun weekend there. THIS OR THAT: STRIPE TYPES FOR RUGS!

Stripe Type 1 - A bold black and white stripe rug in a modern living room provides lots of visual interest. (above)

I like a nice striped rug in a living space. I think stripes are always a classic. Not all stripes are alike however.

In today's THIS OR THAT, I bring you 4 living rooms with 4 different stripe rugs on the floor...you decide which of these striped rugs looks best!  Pick your "Stripe Type"!

Stripe Type 2 - A library reading area in a home features built in book shelves, gray velvet upholstered wing back chairs and a black and white rug to finish off the decor. (above)

I am liking Stripe Type 2 and Stripe Type 4 the best I think.  These flat weave rugs seem to blend well with their respective spaces...also the color and tone soften the bold stripe pattern.

Soooo...which of these Stripe Types do you like best? Do you even like a stripe rug?

TREND ALERT: SUPER WIDE - SUPER LIGHT!

17"wide planks for a white washed wood floor inside a home. (above)

Dark dark brown, near black and ebony wood floors were so in for so long.  For years, I had wanted to rip out my medium toned wood floors in my tiny little cottage in the Hollywood Hills and start over with the darkest of dark wood floors.  I still want to rip out the floors in my tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills but times have changed (I think).

That was then...this is now.  Gone with the dark and in with the wide and light.

So today, in September 2012, I'm leaning towards a much lighter wood floor as a possibility for my tiny little housette.  I mention the month and year only because I would like to record how many times I change my mind in between now and the time I actually get around to doing my floors (I've been talking about floors for about 2-3 years now and have done absolutely nothing to make this happen...all talk...no action...hmmm).  Don't get me wrong, I'm still totally into herringbone wood floors and this is my dream...but I've got to say...I'm liking where wood floors are going these days.

The trend seems to be wide planks and lighter floors.

"Normal wood" floors have planks that are about 3 inches - 5 inches wide.

But, as you can see here bigger is becoming the new better with some homes boasting floors these days with planks as wide 17-18 inches!

I went to a party at my friend AZ's (now AG because she got married this summer) sister-in-law's house earlier this summer.  The sister-in-law had just remodeled her entire Los Angeles Tudor style home in the tony area of Hancock Park.  AG's sister-in-law decided to use a lighter rubbed wide plank wood floor throughout her newly updated home.  It looks awesome.

When we moved into our tiny new Beverly Hills office space - COCOCOZY HQ -  a few months back, I used gray lighter floors at for the business office...they are not super duper light but they are lighter than I ever thought I would want a floor and it looks good.

P.P.P.S.  Yesterday, was talking on the phone with my funny friend ABT who lives in London now...all of a sudden she started coughing violently...when I asked her what was wrong...she said "A fly just flew into my mouth!"  I said, "Where are you?".  She said, "In my apartment."  I love that.  What are the chances of a fly flying into your mouth while you are sitting on the phone in your apartment chatting with a friend?  (For those of you who saw me tweet about this on COCOCOZY Twitter yesterday...please excuse the repeat.  I just thought I had to share this little amusing tid bit)

SMART DESIGN: A FRIENDLY COLORFUL KITCHEN FLOOR!

Ran across this photo of a bright white small kitchen with a wonderful green floor.

Turns out the floor is a huge sheet of green colored linoleum.

I like this idea.  Still keeps the overall design bright and fresh but adds a bit of vivid personality to this cooking space.

Cool thing is that using the right kind of linoleum can be environmentally friendly too.  See below for some green colored green natural linoleum floor options!

P.S.  On Saturday, I went to a fab bridal shower for dear friend AZ who is getting married in Mexico in a few weeks.  Am off to a destination wedding and am so excited to travel and to see my good friend get married.  Anyhoooo...while at the shower I ran into Megan Dostal, co-founder of Further, an eco friendly company that makes these cool biodegradable hand soaps, lotions and now candles.  I've met Megan a few times over the years at AZ's birthday parites but we never really got a chance to talk. This time we did. I found out that Further was founded by Megan and her husband Marshall. He began making the soaps in their garage out of recycled vegetable oils picked up from local restaurants!  Just 3 years later, their products are in 400 stores and restaurants nationwide!  I love a great entrepeneur story.  Plus the soap and the lotion are quite fabulous too.  Can't wait to catch up with them at the wedding.  See the soap below!
