ARTSY APARTMENT IN PARIS - ODE TO PIET MONDRIAN

A house that derives its style from a famous painter!  Interesting 2600 square foot apartment in Paris.  It is located in the 1st arrondissement overlooking the famed Louvre Museum.  Quite apropos to its location near arguably the most famous art museum in the world, the apartment seems to be themed after the work of early 20th century Dutch artist Piet Mondrian.  Mondrian was part of the De Stijl movement in art. Mondrian founded an abstract art style that he called "neoplasticism" - black lines and color blocks on white ground.

This apartment features lots of windows, black wall molding and window trim, and color blocked rooms in yellow, turquoise, white and hot pink.  In reality, the black moldings are the glue to this home's decor by Sarah LaVoine.

CITY KITCHEN CONFIDENCE

The kitchen in a West Village apartment with garden views.  A city apartment kitchen with a sophisticated country look.  Subway tile with dark grout line the walls, dark charcoal gray cabinets and gray trim around the large french doors, brass accents adding a bit of gleam and white marble counters.  Very nice.  A place to cook, dine, and entertain.  Lately am obsessed with having a nice size kitchen with an island.  Can imagine some day my big kitchen with an island being the focal point of my home...I would cook (yes mom I would cook), work on COCOCOZY (via laptop), drink lots of Earl Gray tea, entertain my friends and family, and some days just take some time to sit quietly and dream.

P.S. Having a hard time adjusting to being back to reality after 8 amazing days in Hawaii with TE. Here is a picture of a rainbow that showed up outside our window at the St. Regis hotel in Princeville on our last morning in Kauai. Ahhh...pictures do not do it justice. It was a stunning double rainbow at that!!  I've never seen a double rainbow before!  Apparently this particular rainbow was so awesome that all of the hotel employees left their posts to take pictures too...the bellman told us there was a few minutes downstairs where no one was at the hotel's front desk because they ran to take pictures...he said that never happens!  Feel lucky to have spent a fantastic week with TE on my first visit to Hawaii and then to get a double rainbow at the end!  Who could ask for more?

TWO FACED ROOM

Cute modern den with mid century touches...charcoal gray wall on one side and white painted walls with windows on the other.  One side is moody (in a good way) and warm, the other is bright and cheerful.

One room...two faces...didn't know rooms could change moods so easily!

TILE FILE - ORANGE & BLACK KITCHEN

What a darling small kitchen I think.  Shiny square Hermes orange ceramic wall tiles, black cabinetry with gold pulls and knobs.  Love the white farmhouse sink and gold faucet.  It all works.

Using orange tiles on the walls all the way to the ceiling and as a backsplash sounds like bold and risky combination in a kitchen but actually comes of quite well.

Love the architecture of the whole space with the high pitched ceilings, oval skylight and french doors.  A very bright and cheerful way to start off the week.

SEE THIS HOUSE: A MYSTERIOUS $43 MILLION DOLLAR NEWPORT BEACH MANSION!

A $43 million dollar waterfront home on Harbor Island, in Newport Beach. (above)

Don't know much about this property except the price tag. It is a real estate mystery of sorts.  A multi million dollar home listed by Sotheby's International Realty...on tiny Harbor Island in Newport Beach.

I was so curious about the home that I went as far as to call Sotheby's to find out more information. I was told in the friendliest way possible that information would only be shared with people who were "serious" about purchasing the property.  Well I am "serious" to an extent!  Hello?  "Serious" about knowing more.  Would need to come up with just a few million extra dollars in order to really consider buying it.  Hmmm...note to self...find extra millions (43 to be exact) so you can be a "serious" potential buyer and find out more about this home that is listed for sale...

Anyhooo...what I do know is that the house is that it is a new home (I think), the website says it is "re-designed French limestone clad", they also call it "turnkey Neoclassic", in a gated community, with 300 feet of water frontage.  I don't know anything else...but I do wonder how many bedrooms, baths, square footage, or any details really...if someone happens to know, please chime in!

So in today's SEE THIS HOUSE, I bring you a mystery home right in sunny Southern California!  I want to know what you think!

So, would you take it or leave it?  If someone gave you the $43 million to purchase this home (and not buy other stuff with the money)...would you?  Or would you turn up your nose and stay put in your own house?  I would take it.  Would be a bit of commute up to work in Los Angeles and also to COCOCOZY HQ in Beverly Hills. I'd also be over an hour and a half from family and friends...but I would suffer through the traffic (whoa is me) and take this home if it were offered up!  Oh, I would need an extra million to work on the decor...so "someone" would have to give me $44 million to seal the deal!

P.S.  COCOCOZY New Collection #2 - Okay...besides the bedding collection, I am launching a new collection in a whole other area of home furnishings in 2013.  I am not allowed to talk about that deal yet...but I can say that I saw our first samples over the weekend and am so so thrilled.  TW sent me an email with the photos and it was so exciting to see an idea that we've been working on all year come to fruition.  Also, equally exciting was seeing designs that I dreamed up becoming something other than fabric.  Can't wait to share with you.

P.P.S.  COCOCOZY HQ Chandelier (blurry photo warning) -   Here is a blurry close up of the chandelier that went up in COCOCOZY headquarters on Friday.  It looks so cute in context and a little strange just as a blurry close up taken with my phone. I love this chandelier though.  We ordered it about a month ago, got it last Tuesday and by Friday it was hung.  I am not showing the whole tiny tiny office yet (all 350 square feet of it).  But of course, I am debating...should I share photos here of the entire COCOCOZY headquarters office as a work in progress? Should I?  Or should I wait until the office is completely tricked out and fully decorated?  We are almost there.  The finishing touches will go on in the next couple of weeks.  I am hoping to have a small open house or two in our SMALL SMALL office in December.  I should wait for a big reveal.  Right?  Help. Hard for me to keep any secrets.

P.P.P.S.  Went to a fun party at the Roosevelt Hotel on Saturday night, in a beautiful bungalow off of the pool...I put a picture on COCOCOZY Twitter and COCOCOZY Instagram showing the scene at the pool on a rainy night.  It was fun to hang out with KG.

SEE THIS HOUSE: WHAT $50 MILLION DOLLARS BUYS YOU IN MALIBU!

Located on prestigious Carbon Beach in Malibu right on Pacific Coast Highway, this 9 bedroom, 13 bathroom home boasts over 150 feet of gorgeous California beach frontage.  Prime real estate I would say. 10,317 square feet of prime real estate to be exact.

Oh did I mention the $50 million dollar price tag for this house (or should I say estate...or mansion...what does one call a larger than life beach house...?)? Hilton & Hyland has this multi million dollar real estate listing!  Let's see...the house was designed by architect Michael Graves and I found reports that say a guy who once ran Yahoo is selling it (Terry Semel is his name I think).

Here's how the home is described on the property website:

"The home is composed of three pavilions and is a blend of contemporary and traditional architecture, portraying both the feeling of Modernism and Classicism.  You are swept into the heart of the living space by the expansive ocean view. Twelve foot ceilings encase a bank of French doors leading to a signature covered outdoor veranda with columns reminiscent of a contemporary southern plantation. The master bedroom is bathed in sunlight from both the French doors that front the ocean, and the 6 part gridded circular window that comprises most of the north wall of the room. Dual baths and closets complete the master suite. The architect says his vision was to present a home that was “cool and open with the presence of water."

P.P.S. COCOCOZY NEW COLLECTION - I finally received the samples for the new collection I am working on...so very excited! AG and TG came by COCOCOZY HQ on Saturday and saw the beginning swatches for this new collection. Okay...I think I will bury yet another big COCOCOZY story in the P.S. section only because I can never hold anything in long enough for a big reveal. Okay...so on Friday, I got my first samples of the COCOCOZY bedding collection! In January 2013, I'll be debuting a collection of complete bedding - COCOCOZY duvets, shams, sheets and more! I am so excited. I had some linen shams and boudoir pillows in the original COCOCOZY collection...they were extremely high end and I think far too luxury for everyday people like you and me (would be good for the $50 million dollar beach house people though). So I was fortunate enough to be approached by a wonderful company who is now manufacturing a full top of bed collection for COCOCOZY. Woot woot. Woohoo. Yippeeee!!! We've been working on the project for almost a year. The samples are looking good overall. Need to still work on the colors in one of the collections but so far so good. I'll write a real post on COCOCOZY bedding soon.

P.P.P.P.S. VOTE - Remember to vote tomorrow!  I have been obsessed with presidential election polls over the last few weeks - is that geeky? Another question re: election geekiness.  Am one of those people who loves going to the polls to vote and then I wear my sticker around all day that says "I voted". Is that geeky or patriotic? Or is it patriotic geeky?  Either way I am proud to vote and if I am deemed a geek because I am constantly checking the polls, then I am proud of that too!  An interior design addicted, election obsessed, leading a double life, voting girl.  That's me!  Anyhoooo....vote, vote, vote!

RUSTIC MODERN DINING ROOM!

What a great dining room!  I like all of the varying textures, the natural neutral color palette, the liberal use of all things wood and all the while maintaining an air of sleek modern.  I call this style rustic modern.  All of those elements that technically would be used in rustic style decor but that have been fashioned in a clean line modern way.  Understand what I mean?

Wood paneled walls and wood slatted ceilings work in this space (painted wood slats on walls always look good in my view) to create a cozy feel to the space.  The clean lines and subtle curves Danish furniture add a vintage mid century modern vibe to this eating area as well.  Light colored wood floors blend in with the walls.  I love the lighting too...large glass and wire grid pendant lights too.

I like.  Take a look.

P.S.  Had a mini Presidential debate watching "thing" at my house last night.  Served some nice cold white wine (it is so hot here in Los Angeles), put out a nice fruit and cheese plate, and ordered in pizza and salad from one of my favorite restaurants...Cheebo. Had a great time watching the debate and then laughing about the news commentary on CNN after!

P.P.S. Later this week, I'm going to a very small private cocktail event here in Los Angeles where I get to meet a big huge name in the fashion industry - from here on out "The Icon".  I was invited so I could be introduced to "The Icon".  The cocktail party is oh so small.  "The Icon" is a huge commercial success in fashion and I've read about how he got started as inspiration when I was starting my home furnishings collection.  "The Icon's" team wants to introduce me to him because of the COCOCOZY textiles collection.  I'm not supposed to talk about any of the specifics I don't think...so I'll keep very quiet now as to who "he" is.  Don't know what to wear though.  Yikes! There will be a handful of famous people there too.  Oy va voy. I have a cute leather top (but might be too hot)...I also have an adorable navy and black sparkling mini skirt  (but it looks better with opaque black tights and it is too hot for that)...I think the weather is going to thwart my stylish wardrobe plans.  Please have the weather drop to 60 degrees overnight so that I can wear my cute fall outfits!  Please.

COLOR WATCH: ANOTHER CORNFLOWER BLUE KITCHEN!

Another cornflower blue kitchen for you!

Years ago, I did a very short post on a cornflower blue kitchen that many of you seem to have enjoyed.  I enjoyed it too...the color of the kitchen cabinets spoke for themselves.

Well here is another cornflower blue kitchen.  I think I may love this one more than I loved the last.  Notice the gorgeous almost unfinished herringbone wood floors (sigh)...that pushes this kitchen into top tier range for me.

I like the soft almost purple soft blue.  It is very soothing.

So did you take a look at the old post on the other cornflower blue kitchen too...? Do you like one better than the other...?  This one or the old one?

Also, one last question and then I'll stop with the questions...would you be daring enough to paint your whole kitchen this shade of blue?  Why or why not? (oops 2 questions)
