BUILT-IN HEADBOARD - BEDROOM DESIGN IDEA

Bedroom with built in tufted arch headboard

Built in furniture is definitely a way to save space in a small room.  I wish I had built-ins in my tiny little cottage in the Hollywood Hills.  I could use every inch of space there.

This lovely little room in a cottage designed by Jessica Helgerson has everything built in even the headboard!  A tufted arched headboard behind the bed built right into a nook created by built in closets and drawers.  The room is very small but it doesn't feel that way.  No clunky headboard attached to the bed sucking up space.  With the head board flush to the wall...every inch is saved...leaving more room between the foot of the bed and the French doors leading to the garden.

Smart use of space I think.

What are some space saving tricks you've used in your home?  Do you like this idea?  Just noticed there are drawers under the bed too!

Happy Wednesday!

THE ALL WHITE BED - STYLE STATEMENT

Clean white bedroom with light wood floor, a large window and a framed portrait

I love a clean simple all white bed. Never goes out of style.  Is it stylish to just put a white cover or duvet over a bed and call it a day?  Don't get me wrong...I love a fun patterned bed...the COCOCOZY Bedding collection is full of that - interesting textures, graphic shapes, timeless colors.  But on a day where you need mental quiet, deep relaxation, no noise, or a soft touch to the eye...an all soft white bed will do the trick.

Does an all white bed make a style statement?  I wonder.

What do you think?  Do you like an all white in the bed or is it way too boring?  What is your idea for bedding that makes a style statement?  Florals, prints, color?

Happy Wednesday!

P.S.  Okay...best of friend AM and her hubby JE and their two kids arrive tonight.  My deck is still under construction!!!  It is a mess.  They are outside sanding and staining right now.  Follow along on COCOCOZY Instagram @COCOCOZY to see updates of the work in progress.  I'll be posting a few images today!

P.P.S.  Today am wearing a sparkling jeweled short sleeve sweatshirt.  Kind of cute.  Bought it to meet TE's dad and stepmom.  Ended up not wearing it then...but it is good for work!  I am wearing it with some old sparkling Prada flats.  Is that too much sparkle to be taken seriously on the job?  We'll see!

CHINOISERIE CHIC BEDROOM MAKEOVER - BEFORE & AFTER

Elegant bedroom gold Chinoiserie screen white bedding brown trim
After - A gold Chinoiserie screen adds elan to the bedroom decor (above)

Found this bedroom on Style by Emily Henderson blog in a story about a home makeover.  But there were no before pictures of the room.  After a little digging around on the interweb (my name for the web or internet or the webnet or whatever), I found the before photo on Hommemaker blog.  Tah dah!  The research here was easy just a few clicks but I found it.  Waiting for the applause...waiting...all I hear is silence...hmmmm...

As an aside, I feel like I am totally an internet sleuth.  I can find practically anything on the internet that I need.  The other day I was on the phone with my guy TE and he was talking about some people he knew and I happened to be on my computer so I Googled them and found out lots of backstory.  Within seconds of TE mentioning their names, I was telling him all about them.  TE, a guy's guy definitely, was shocked and amazed and I think slightly disturbed -  as if I had pulled a rabbit out of a hat and then pulled a baby Koala out of the hat too or something.  He couldn't comprehend that I even had this information..."What are you saying?  How do you know this?  Where did you find this out?" were his questions.  There was nothing bad I was telling him.  I just did one search and all of the information appeared.  I just knew things like where the people were born, where they lived now, if desired, I could even have found out how much they bought their last house for.  To this day, TE still thinks I am some sort of wizard because I found out this information. Wizard in a neutral way...not good and not bad...but a bizarre information wizard.  Note: Lesson learned, do not tell boyfriend of almost a year that you are an internet super sleuth, he may always look at you as if you are a bizarre information wizard.  Hmmm...

Oh yes...back to this room.  I love the after.  I guess it was styled by Emily H. and Orlando S. (it's his room).  It seems Orlando had some of the basics to start...good wall color (a gray blue of some kind) and a nice rug. So Emily and Orlando, I guess styled the room by bringing in the gold from the rug. They added touches like brass wall lamps, new white bedding with a wonderful rich yellow accent pillow, new nightstands with brass pull and finally the piece de resistance, the gold Chinoiserie painted screen above the bed as wall art!  LOVE!

Before - the room was in good shape but lacked just a bit of zing. (above)

Bedroom after makeover white bedding with brown trim brass and gold accessories wood nightstand succulents
After - White bedding with brown trim and new accessories in brass and gold, warm up the bedroom. (above)

Very nice indeed.

What do you think of this bedroom makeover? Would you have added anything else?

Happy Thursday!

P.S. Am heading to NYC for a few days next week and I still haven't bought my ticket! Oy va voy! I will be seeing best of friend AM, her sweet hubby JE and their darling kids. I can't wait.

P.P.S. Throwing a baby shower this weekend for dear sweet friends AG and TG. A co-ed couples shower. We have 5 co-hosts and over 50 people coming. I am in charge of food (made it easy on myself though (am not Wonder Woman)...with so many people, I just called a caterer and am having them handle...simple fix). Should be fun. I'll take pictures. We are throwing it at TG's sister JH's lovely Hancock Park home. It should be fun. I need to get a gift for the baby. Arghhh...what do I get...it is hard to shop for babies...EVERYTHING is cute. Help! Oh TE is coming with...I've warned him that guys will have to participate in the shower games. He's down for the challenge.

P.P.P.S. Mom and sis DS are in Paris. They keep sending me gorgeous photos of lovely meals, beautiful art, enchanting scenes from the streets of Paris. Am happy for them...wish I could be there...next year!!!

COCOCOZY Linens for Downtown are here.  My new collection of reversible bedding is going to market next week!

So I mentioned I would be in High Point, NC next weekend for the furniture market.  I am actually going there to debut two new full collections!

I've talked about the COCOCOZY for Capel Rugs collection quite a bit...I showed 5 rugs in New York in January but this time around in North Carolina we are showing the full collection of 24 rugs...woohoooo!

I haven't spoken much about my new bedding collection but today that is changing!  Am so thrilled today to finally have some images of the bedding to show you!  The very nice DM over at Downtown is having all of the bedding shot today and she just sent me these photos!

COCOCOZY Linens are 100% imported cotton, super soft 400 thread count ...the line features booth printed and embroidered pieces on three different color stories (navy, taupe, gray).

Here's the cool part...you can totally mix and match your duvet cover sides...the fronts and back duvet sides are sold separately allowing you to customize your bedroom look.  We even have a U.S. Patent Pending on this Convertible Bedding!

COCOCOZY AT THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL GIFT FAIR 2013!

NYIGF COCOCOZY Booth
The COCOCOZY booth at the New York International Gift Fair. (above)
So, am here in New York at the New York International Gift Fair! We made it! Wooohooo!!!!

CM who runs all things operations is here with me (he is doing an amazing job...so impressed with his skills on the floor with clients). Also MK, a lovely interior designer here in NYC, is helping out too.

It has been a whirlwind as usual.  I arrived on Thursday night.  I went directly to best of friend AM's fabulous Soho apartment that she shares with her nice hubby JE and her two darling kids.  I haven't seen AM since the summer so I was so thrilled to be there with her.  She's like family.

The next morning we hit the ground running. We arrived at the Javits Center on Friday.  Set up the booth in one day (a record for us thanks to CM and MK).  Oh did I mention...as I was looking at the COCOCOZY bedding in the Downtown Company booth...someone spilled coffee all over several of our sample bedding shams...it was late evening on set up day and I was there by myself, so I rescued the coffee stained sham, spent a good half hour rinsing and washing right here at the fair!

Then TE arrived in town from Los Angeles on Friday night and I met him at the Bowery Hotel (love it there).  We then went to dinner in Chinatown with AM and JE at an interesting restaurant named Pulqueria (upstairs a Chinese restaurant but then downstairs is a rocking Mexican eatery complete with a DJ and great margaritas).

Saturday I dragged TE to the flower district to pick up Dianthus Green Trick, Boxwood topiaries, and white orchids (I'll show you shots of our booth greenery later), we put the finishing touches on the booth, went to lunch at Lucky Strike in Soho with AM, JE and kiddies, did a bit of shopping (walking around in the freezing cold in Soho was fun only when we went inside the stores...I'm not accustomed to super cold weather so TE heard my best wimpering and whining on that day).  Saturday ended with a big dinner at Gemma with the Capel Rugs folks John Magee and Tami Watras and designer Kevin O'Brien, TE, AM, JE and me.  A fun dinner.

Then yesterday the show began!  More updates to come.

TREND ALERT: SPOT ON DOT DECORATING FOR KIDS ROOMS!

White children's bedroom with two beds with patterned bedding, pink spotted accents on the curtains, a small table with two green chairs and a large round pink lantern on the ceiling

I like a little dot or spot here and there in a kids room. Dots work for little boys or little girls rooms quite well. I like a subtle dot...not quite a big bold polka dot...a dot that just adds nice visual texture to a child's room. Instead of polka dot...what should I call these dots. A chic dot? A modern dot? A dashing dot?  Maybe I'll call these chic subtle dots...coco dots...or is that too self serving?  Hmmmm....

Anyhooo (one reader says she doesn't like when I say anyhooo...but I do say it...so anyhoooo...sorry dear reader...I'll try to lessen the anyhoos...but I do find for me it does reflect what's ticking up in my little head...not quite an "anyway" or "any how"...an anyhoooo is my way of getting myself to focus...as I start to meander off topic as I so often do, somehow I all of a sudden think "Anyhoooo time to get on track"...P.S. I just scrolled through my posts and noticed I do say anyhooo quite a bit...ooops....yikes...point taken...)...

So anyhoooo :-), would love to know what you think of these sophisticated dots for kids!

P.S. Went to a fun party with TE on Saturday at a gorgeous home in Santa Monica. Lovely event, charming host and hostess, nice guests, good conversation and all in an absolutely beautiful setting!

P.P.S. My Christmas tree is up. My gardener brought me a 6 foot tall Douglas Fir and I decorated it last night with silver and sparkles. I think I may be allergic to my tree though. I woke up with puffy eyes!

P.P.P.S. Floor guy came and gave me a quote to redo my wood floors in my tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills that is around 700 square feet. He said the price would be $10,000 or so. That feels way too high! Needless to say, I'm getting another quote!

MARKET WATCH: COCOCOZY NAVY!

Photos in this post by Coco of COCOCOZY
COCOCOZY Arch Reverse Linen Pillow and Gate Throw in navy on a white bed

So I am back home in Los Angeles. I just got in from Atlanta yesterday afternoon.  I was there for several days for the Atlanta International Gift & Furnishing Market.  Market is still going on there for a few days but I had to get back to go to work this morning.

As you probably know (only because I've blabbed about it all week on the blog), I was in Atlanta showing off the COCOCOZY home furnishings collection to buyers.  I am so happy that my collection is housed at the very prestigious Christian Mosso Associates (CMA) showroom with so many other amazing lines.  So if you are still in Atlanta and have not stopped by the showroom, the COCOCOZY collection is still there for you to view (CMA is in America's Mart, Building 1, 9th Floor).  Please stop by and let me know what you think!

Market is so much fun...so many fun people to meet and there are so many fabulous things to see at market.  So this week, each day, I'm going to try to bring you a bit of what I saw and liked while in Atlanta in a few MARKET WATCH posts.

Today I bring you an unplanned bedding vignette that happened in the showroom one day!

This "COCOCOZY moment" pictured here happened when a customer was reviewing the COCOCOZY textiles collection. She wanted to see what the navy collection looked like...so we took an Arch Reverse Linen Pillow and Gate Throw in navy and threw them on an entirely silk bed by Kumi Kookoon and tah dah.  Love the combination of navy and white.  So wonderful.

What do you think of this little accidental bedding moment?  Like or dislike?

Happy Monday!

P.S.  Got home yesterday and it was gorgeous here in L.A.  Good news is that it was perfect weather.  Only, not so good news is that when I pulled up to my house I saw that all of my pretty purple and white flowers had died.  I forgot to leave the automatic sprinklers on! Oy va voy.

P.P.S.  Had a fabulous dinner with PR and his sister J on Saturday night in Atlanta.  We went to a restaurant in downtown Atlanta called Thrive.  We got there about 7:30 and pretty much had the pick of the restaurant on where we wanted to sit (it wasn't busy).  We got a very nice waitress as our server.  Turns out she was new to the restaurant staff so she kept having to go back to the kitchen and ask questions.  After we received our appetizer and while we were waiting for our main course, the waitress came up to the table and asked us if we wanted dessert and asked if we had made our dessert selection.  We all chuckled because we though she was joking...we hadn't even received our main course yet.  PS joked with the waitress and said "We haven't even seen a dessert menu."  She immediately smiled and scurried off.  Moments later she returned with dessert menus and said asked us if we wanted dessert again.  I said, "Oh, I think we'd like to have dinner first before we order".  The waitress stared at us blankly.  Then J realized that the waitress was confused and J explained in detail and slowly what we had ordered for dinner and were still waiting on that.  Then a light bulb went off over our waitresses head.  She had forgotten that we hadn't eaten our main course yet! A few minutes later our food came out.  It was delicious. We all got a good laugh including the very nice waitress (who was so so sweet....turns out she's a student here for a few months in the U.S. learning English)!

P.P.P.S.  I must say...I've now been to Atlanta four times in my life...each time to show the collection.  This was the first time I really enjoyed the city!

P.P.P.P.S.  Off to work this morning...heavier.  While in the south, I sure did eat. It was ridiculous.  The CMA showroom has margaritas in the afternoon and snacks all day...and then I went to all of these fabulous dinners. I stopped by one showroom during lunch one day while at market and they had something called Chick Fil-A and I had that (had never had it before) basically it is fried chicken.  Yesterday when I got home, I immediately went to Wholefoods  and bought tons of veggies, fruit, my raw granola and some quinoa.  I must now go on an austerity program.  A few weeks ago I also bought this blending device so I can "juice"...am going to have to pull it out of the box.  Check out COCOCOZY Twitter or Instagram to see what I bought and let me know if you think it will work.  I posted about it last week.  Okay...back to reality!

HIGH HOPES FOR STYLING A TWIN ROOM!

Twin bed with high coral colored upholstered headboard with a Chinoisserie print
A high coral colored upholstered headboard with a Chinoisserie print makes a big impact against  sea grass wallpaper in a twin bedroom. (above)

Twin bedrooms are kind of like powder rooms to me....from a decor stand point that is.  A cute small guest powder room has traditionally been the place in a home that interior designers and design enthusiasts use to make a big decor statement with bold wallpaper, daring paint color, exotic finishes, statement tiling, whimsical accessories and more.

Similarly, a twin bedroom, whether it be for guests or kids should be a room in which you take a risk and have some decorating fun.

What better way to make a design statement in a twin bedroom than with a high profile headboard or bed frame?  A taller than normal headboard or bed profile can definitely up the ante in visual impact.

Here are some examples...

Tall upholstered yellow brocade headboards match the bed spreads and the walls in this twin room. (above)

Bedroom with two twin beds with high arched iron bed frames
The high arched iron beds make the biggest statement in this very sparse little twin room. (above)

Which of these twin rooms do you prefer?  I am having a hard time deciding!  None can also be an answer...if so, how might you style a high profile twin bed!

Happy Wednesday!

THIS OR THAT: BEDROOM WALLPAPER!

modern bedroom with one wall covered in gray wallpaper with branches on it, light wood floor, an antique chair and a window overlooking a yard

Hope you had a fabulous July 4th holiday! Now back to design!

Two bedrooms with a little something in common. Wallpaper.

Wallpaper is used on a feature wall behind the bed in each of the rooms. The styles are very different...one room is modern and sparse with cool gray and white tones...while the other room is more traditional with the use of bright green and turquoise.

Do you like the way wallpaper is used in these sleeping spaces? If so, which one do you prefer? These are the questions in today's THIS OR THAT!

I'm going to have to go with room #1. You?

WEEKEND PHOTO!

White bedroom with ikata polka dot duvet cover

Love this simple white bedroom with a ikat polka dot duvet cover. Comes from Swedish photographer Daniella Witte. It is her bedroom. I like looking through her photos of her home.

Fresh, clean decor with a bit of whimsy here and there. I just pinned some images of her dining room, living room and home office on COCOCOZY Pinterest. Make sure to follow me there as I'll pin more interesting photos that don't make it onto the blog!

P.S. Thanks for all of the comments on my garden decor. I think I am going to take some of the tips to heart...change out the pillows, maybe change out the dining chairs at the deck table, and add a little bar cart - all reader suggestions! Thank you!

THE HARBINGER OF GOOD DECOR!

All photos in this post by Coco of COCOCOZY
entrance to the Harbinger

When I took someone to an opening at the Harbinger showroom in Los Angeles, they said being at Harbinger was like living an evening right in the pages of a magazine like House Beautiful with all of its beautiful rooms, furniture, wall coverings and textiles. I would agree...

Harbinger is an exquisite showroom in the heart of the La Cienega Design District. The showroom features a well curated selection of fine textiles, furniture, lighting and home accessories.

Owned by uber talented interior designers Joe Lucas and Parrish Chilcoat, Harbinger has a feel of relaxed elegance.

Okay. I must admit, even though I've been to quite a few design showrooms, I still get a bit intimidated by the mood in most high design places...I feel a little out of my element not knowing everything there is to know about everything in design...I often feel like if I say the wrong thing, in those showrooms someone will roll their eyes at me. I may be imagining it but usually when I walk into most high end showrooms, I want to walk right out because I don't necessarily feel welcomed.

At the Harbinger showroom, the vibe is completely different from other showrooms I've been to in the past...comfortable, warm - a home away from home for gorgeous design. While Harbinger deals only in the finest of home furnishings, the showroom personnel (Tami Carey, showroom manager) and owners Joe and Parrish somehow manage to strike a balance between luxury and creating an inviting environment.

So the other day, when JH was in town (after she went to the Clooney/President Obama event), I took a bit of time during my lunch to meet her at Harbinger and hang out in the showroom.  It was only my second time at Harbinger even though they carry the COCOCOZY textiles line (I can't usually peel away from my day job to get to the showroom during the week).  What a lovely hour we spent there. Stunning furniture, beautiful textiles, nice conversation and we got to chat with textiles designer Katie Leede who was showing off her latest fabric line.  Did I mention they were serving a delicious light lunch, drinks and desserts?  Yes.  Home.
