FAMILY FRIENDLY HOME IN TORONTO WITH PERSONAL STYLE

A comfortable accessible family home in Toronto.  This home was featured on Vogue's website...apparently the home where Vogue.com contributor and blogger Sophie Young grew up. A very warm home a mix of old and new.  The home sits in a residential neighborhood in the center of Toronto.  It was an abandoned property before Sophie's parents took it over and made it their own.

A safe, stylish, fresh, personal, unpretentious space to raise a family. The decorating style combines old and new quite seamlessly along with a little whimsy in the form of color and art.  Well done.  Take a look.

BEDFORD BEAUTIES - MULTI MILLION DOLLAR THIS OR THAT

Have become obsessed with the town of Bedford in Westchester County New York.  "Why would a California girl living in a tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills become obsessed with a town and the real estate there that is thousands of miles away?", you might ask.

Well it is simply.  A few weeks ago, I went to New York to visit best of friend AM and to do something called editor desksides...where you go and sit and chat with magazine editors and talk about your product.  One of my desksides was with the very venerable Margaret Russell, Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Digest (seen here with fashion icon Ralph Lauren).  Margaret was so nice to take a half hour with me in her Conde Nast office to chat about the COCOCOZY home furnishings collection and blog.

Anyhooo...after seeing Margaret, I was getting on a plane back to Los Angeles, so I picked up the September issue of Architectural Digest and there was an article about Ralph Lauren and all of his homes...including Lauren's spectacular estate in Bedford, NY.  Lauren has a rather lavish estate...a little too grand for me...but made me think...what if I could get a farm in Bedford one day and grow it into an estate?  I mentioned this to TE...he seemed perplexed as to why Bedford and somewhat surprised when I told him he would be getting the farm with me!

So I did a little research on Bedford and found that in addition to Ralph Lauren, Martha Stewart has a farm there, actress Blake Lively and actor Ryan Reynolds, actor Richard Gere, billionaire George Soros and the list goes on.  It is a small town with a population of just over 17,000.  Founded in the 1600s this small quaint village is only about an hour from New York City.  The real estate opportunities all seem to include lots of acreage...good for a horse farm potentially.  Maybe the next name on the list will be Coco of COCOCOZY.  Who knows!

P.S. Had a fab Labor Day weekend.  Hope you did too.  Check list got worked on.  Got a new car (after TE and I walked out of the first dealership, found a car the next day at a nice dealer closer to me), had house re-painted, got guys working on deck too, had some minor repairs done around the house,  had new cushions done for all outdoor furniture (this was an ordeal of taking close to 20 seat cushions and pillows to JF, getting fabric and then picking up said completed cusinos), met TEs dad and stepmom (who are just fantastic) - had breakfast one day and dinner one night with them and TE's son,  drove out to Claremont and visited with my mother who is back from Paris (nice time catching up), went to a large family luncheon and saw relatives I haven't seen in years (so nice to see everyone including my aunts AJ, SS, LS, RM, and JS), made two visits to Home Depot...and the list goes on and on.  Productive.

DARLING SWEDISH COTTAGE BY THE SEA - SEE THIS HOUSE INTERNATIONAL

The real estate listing calls this home a New England style shabby chic cottage even though it is actually located in Sweden!. I would describe this cute Swedish house in the seaside town of Vallda Sando as plain old darling.

This quaint cottage is listed for about $760,000 USD and is just over 2000 square feet.  A true little gem built back in 1921 and renovated in 2010.  It is listed by Stadshem.

Even though I live in a tiny little cottage in the Hollywood Hills, I wouldn't necessarily say I am a classic cottage type of girl.  However, I could most likely work with this very classic cottage.  I love all of the windows and the bright white painted hardwood floors and walls. Visually manageable and easy to understand.  Not to complicated from an interior design perspective but just pretty enough.  The

$12.9 MILLION STATELY HAMPTONS SUMMER HOME - SEE THIS HOUSE

The other day I was on the phone with best of friend AM.  We were catching up on the weekend - just doing our regular phone call check in.  She lives in NYC and is a high powered finance girl.  Well, half way through the conversation she said, "What did you say?".  I repeated what I had just said.  AM said, "I still can't hear you."  I repeated what I said again.  Then AM said calmly and distractedly on the phone, "Either you need to speak up, or I need to find friends who talk louder."  Hee hee!  A NYC girl type of comment indeed!

People always think I am from New York or I live in New York...I think it is because I feature so many homes in Manhattan and in the Hamptons.  I am not from NYC.  I was born and raised in Los Angeles...but somehow it seems born with a bit of an East Coast point of view.  Here's what I've found...I move at NYC type of pace...I talk faster than most people in Los Angeles but probably slower than many people in NYC, I definitely eat faster than most people in the world (was a bit non-dainty when on vacation with TE, my guy who runs marathons, and I managed to down every meal at least twice as fast as he did and had to sit and watch in quasi humiliation as he deliberately ate each bite (he clearly listened to his mother's warnings on chewing food) and then left food behind because he couldn't eat anymore...hmmm...grrr.....

Anyhooo...all of these seeming non-sequiturs do lead to a point...really...they do...

I am trying to justify another East Coast Hamptons SEE THIS HOUSE.  Make sense...I have East Coast friends, I eat and talk faster than lots of people on the East Coast...so therefore it makes sense I would constantly feature houses from NYC and the Hamptons.  Logical...right?  Or faulty logic?  Help!

This time a $12.9 million dollar Water Mill estate with 8 bedrooms, 7 baths, 2 partial baths and 8,600 square feet.  The home is listed by Sothebys and sits on 1.6 acres of land.  No water view for this home but lots of area to roam and lounge.

There is a pool, a wood panel library, 2 staff rooms and more.

Would you take this or leave it?  SEE THIS HOUSE!

DOORMAT PICKS FOR MY BLACK FRONT DOOR!

Option #1 - Bienvenue coir doormat (above)

This is my front door at my little tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills.  It is a black shiny front door with frosted glass widow panes.

My front door decor is simple, the black door, white trim, brushed silver knob and lock, a square silver outdoor sconce for lighting and finally the door is flanked by potted boxwood topiaries. My front door was yellow at one point and then it was brown.  Now this is it.  A glossy shiny black front door.

This past weekend I was thinking a lot about door design for a guest post I am doing for another website.   I wanted share a photo of my front door but realized I needed a new doormat.  So off I went on Memorial Day...in search of the perfect doormat.

I, of course, can never make a descision so I bought three different doormats.

Option #1 (above) - A coir front doormat with black frame and Bienvenue written on it
Option #2 (below) - A coir doormat with black and white ticking stripes
Option #3 (below) - A simple wire lattice mat

Now I need your help! Vote on which doormat you think works for my front door decor?

My mom, sis DS and TE all weighed in...they all picked Option #3 (the wire doormat).  I can't decided whether Option #1 with Bienvenue ("welcome" in French) is cheesy because of the words...I have never had a doormat with writing on it.  I like Option #2 a lot too.  Each day this week, I have put a different doormat out to figure out which I like best.  Help!

There is also the option of no doormat...but then I worry about my new wood floors...

HAMPTONS HOMES BY BATES MASI ARCHITECTS

I happened upon the website of Bates Masi Architects and was so intrigued.  Bates Masl is an award winning Hamptons based architecture firm run by architects Paul Masi and Harry Bates.  When I think of the Hamptons, I often think of a traditional shingled Gambrel style beach homes.  Well Bates Masl designs homes that are the complete opposite of traditional upscale beach home.  Their homes are modern, massive and  layered with innovative architectural detail.

GOING EXTRA LARGE AT HIGH POINT MARKET - COCOCOZY RUG COLLECTION - THE BIGGER THE BETTER !

Can a blogger be a blogger without a proper camera? If the answer is no...then I am not a blogger! Arrrghhh! I hopped a plane to High Point, NC on Saturday night (I took the red eye) with a HUGE piece of luggage, lots of purses and bags, tons of accessories, lots of shoes but with no camera charger. I had everything in the world that one could need for a three day, two night stay EXCEPT for a way to charge my little camera. (Aside: years ago I gave up on even pretending to be a light packer...when I go anywhere I try to ween down my travel wardrobe but always end up with big big big luggage...have always wanted to be a light packer...arrive for a 5 day trip with one little carry on...would seem so sophisticated and cosmopolitan and chic - the sign of a well traveled international girl...right?Instead...when I travel, I basically lug around my entire house and closet with me...very NOT chic, sophisticated or cosmopolitan...hmmmm...must figure this out in the next decade...anyhooo...)

All of this chitter chatter to say...I took these photos with a mix of Canon Elph and iPhone and even got so desperate at one point, I pulled out my Blackberry (which has THE worst camera in the world on it).

Today a bring you a smattering of not so professional photos of a few of the COCOCOZY for Capel Rugs collection...the 8'x11' super sized versions.

I spent much of my time at market sifting through the 24 rugs hanging in the Capel Rugs showroom at Market Square in High Point.

At one point, I was so eagerly leafing through the gigantic rugs, that I didn't notice that a Capel customer was on the other side and I almost smushed her in between the COCOCOZY gigantic rugs...would not have been good...right?

Must run off to my day job...so I don't even have time to label these rug photos. I will a little later! Hope you enjoy COCOCOZY rugs - super sized!

Nice to see friend Alyssa Tamez and meet her guy Pete who owns a showroom called Grassroots...and there were so many more nice people who passed by.

P.P.P.S. Had the thrill of hanging out with t.v. personality Genevieve Gorder. We were staying at the same house that Capel rents in High Point (High Point is such a small town that there are not enough hotel rooms at time of market...so families rent out their gorgeous houses for the week of market to different companies). She was leaving and I was arriving but we got a chance to spend about 2 hours chatting in the morning and sharing design stories. She is great. Genevieve also has a fantastic rug collection with Capel. Hi Genevieve and fab make up artist Randall.

P.P.P.P.S. Had a great dinner one night with darling Cameron Capel, cute Tami Wateras and the very nice Krissa Rossbund, Style Editor at Traditional Home. On Monday, we went into Greensboro and had a very nice dinner after a day on our feet at market. A fantastic group of girls.  Thanks Krissa for joining us!
